HipTel Broadband Phone is Long Distance Post's VoIP phone system. HipTel uses the Internet to terminate calls resulting in low cost international long distance and free calling to anywhere in the United States and Canada.
HipTel will provide you with an ATA when purchasing a plan from us. The ATA plugs into the broadband connection and then plugs either directly into your home phone system or into a regular phone. Plugging the ATA into your home phone system will convert all existing hardware and phone jacks in your house to an IP phone system.
Unlike traditional analog phones that use circuit switching to terminate your calls, IP phones use packet switching. Voice data information is sent over the fastest, least expensive route. Packet switching results in cheaper more efficient services, while maintaining the same high quality as a regular phone line.
HipTel Broadband Phone offers a variety of features standard with purchase of any HipTel plan. Traditionally these features must be purchased a la cart style from your local phone carrier; causing the price of just a local phone to to increase considerably.
In order for HipTel to work properly in your home, you must have a broadband Internet connection. Broadband Internet connections include, cable modems, DSL, T1 or faster connections.

For all other plans, there are several ways to handle fax services:

If you only need to receive faxes, you may consider using the fax to email feature of this service that comes at no extra cost.

If you plan to distribute your HipTel Broadband Phone service using your existing phone wiring, it is important to disconnect your house wiring from the PSTN (your traditional phone company). Failure to do so may cause irreparable damage to your telephone adapter (ATA).
First, locate the demarc point. In a residential environment, the demarc is the point where the PSTN connects to the wiring in your house. Once you have disconnected your house wiring from the PSTN, simply plug your HipTel Broadband Phone ATA into your house wiring. Provided the phones in your house have a total REN of 3 or less (each device has a REN number printed on the bottom), all the phones in your house should be usable.
