Locus MobileTM Prepaid Cellular TDMA Recharge Phone Cards Time Division Multiple Access, or TDMA, is an older network and way of providing service to cell phones. This network was formerly used by AT&T and Cingular, but as technology improved they have switched to operating on a GSM network. Locus Telecommunications discontinued activating new TDMA phones and all other TDMA service providers are following suit. Long Distance Post will continue to provide air time recharges for current TDMA cell phones that have already been activated before January 1, 2006. Meaning if you already are using a TDMA phone, you can continue to use it. Locus Telecommunications has not announced an end date to stop recharging currently active TDMA phones, and as a result TDMA recharge cards can still be purchased from Long Distance Post. If you already have an active TDMA phone and are looking for a way of recharging your phone this can still be done at the Long Distance Post web store. TDMA Alternatives: If you were looking to sign up for a new TDMA prepaid cell phone, Long Distance Post provides two other networks as alternative to activate your prepaid phone: GSM is the newer form of technology that is replacing the older TDMA networks. It provides higher quality reception than TDMA networks, has more advanced phones and uses neat features like a SIM card. By removing the SIM card from a current phone and placing it in a new phone all of your phone numbers, telephone number and active service will be instantly transferred to the new mobile phone. This makes upgrading wireless phones a much simpler process that can be done in seconds. Currently both Cingular/AT&T and T-Mobile operate on GSM networks. GSM is the technology used world-wide, so a GSM phone can be used in many other countries around the world. All that is need to be changed is a SIM card. Another alternative to activating a new prepaid phone on a TDMA network is CDMA technology. Despite contrary belief, CDMA technology is actually newer and more capable technology then GSM. Our current phone users find they get the best service coverage on a CDMA network, as it is the same network that Verizon Wireless currently operates on.

Which Prepaid Mobile Service is RIGHT FOR YOU?

• Both services clearly have advantages and disadvantages to them.
  In general CDMA phones receive better service coverage then GSM phones. So if service coverage is what you are after, CDMA is technology for you. CDMA prepaid mobile phones also have a higher data transfer rates and emit a smaller amount of radiation.
  Advantages of GSM wireless phones can be seen through their versatility. Virtually everywhere around the world currently uses GSM technology. While United States GSM phones broadcast at different frequencies than many other GSM networks around the world, multi-band phones can be obtained so traveling with your wireless phone is easy. GSM phones also use a SIM card, which make switching phones an easy and painless process.
• Both services receive comparable prices for prepaid minutes.
  However GSM plans supply minutes at a rate of 14 cents per minute while CDMA rates start at 15 cents per minute. Therefore if cost is not the determining factor, here is what should be. The deciding factor as to which phone is right for you should depend on local service coverage in your area and areas that you frequently travel to. If you are concerned about mobile service coverage, remember that in general CDMA phones will receive better coverage then GSM, however both services provide adequate coverage to most parts of the United States.

If you already have a phone that you would like Long Distance Post to activate for prepaid wireless, you must go with the network that your phone currently operates on. It is not possible to change the network that an active mobile phone operates on.
